Those pics make me so sad
Flew many high speed international pub crawls on both as a GE. Tended them with excessive loving care only to see them tired and broken, what a sad sad sight to see the best of british engineering reduced to scrap.
The 10 played a big part in providing the dosh to buy a house, feed my family, educate my kids, see the world in the good old days when we had several scheduled routes to fly to the far east, America, N Ireland etc etc.
Ah they were such happy days.
Carried anything from Royalty, the Queen on African tours, Charles to commenwealth funerals and tours of Canada and America, to Gurkhas from Nepal to Hong Kong and back after thier initial training, Cargo of all sorts including Nuke heads, returned from places various to Scampton. Rescued people from places of strife such as Iran and the new Hebredese, when a guy with a load of bandits tried to take the place over. Several trips into Aldergrove per day with troops and cargo during the troubles. Prime ministers to all sorts of places including Harold Wilson asleep on the floor in his shreddies so we had to step over him. Still have nightmares over that one!!
What a life the Queen of the skies has given me so you can see why I am sad at the pics.

That just sums up the vc10 for me..a fantastic servant to this country, she deserves more..the scrapping started in 1974 by boeng..36 years later the scrapping is still going on..just makes me so sad to think how much life was left in the boeing casualties...just a side line...my father worked at brough in the 1960,s when they made the bucaneer..he remembers the day the work force had to come up with a name for it...but he was always awe struck by the beauty of the vc10.
