Having seen Wing Commander Lushington signing books etc and chatting to everyone after the last flight today I couldn't help but wonder why his epaulettes had EIIR on them? Is that simply due to his rank or because he has flown the Queen or because he is allowed to fly the Queen?

Anyone know the reason?

I noticed those too and wondered. Sadly I don't have the answer.

I seem to remember that my Station Commander at RAF Halton 1981-1984, Gp Capt M J Evans, had the same, means he was an Aide-De-Camp, assistant to a Senior Officer, or Government, Minister or Member of The Royal Family.

Cheers
