I'm pretty sure 2 are scheduled to go to Brunters very shortly, not sure which ones but assume they'll be C1K :-({{|=

Correct, end of this month/November, 102 and 107 will be gone.

Another one around xmas, and maybe a 4th in the new year.

I did know, but I've forgotten! I'll have a look when I'm back to work which will be tomorrow or Weds, more likely Weds.

Can I ask what the special affiliation with 108 is?

Little update:

XV102 and XV107 should now be retired around Dec 9th, and a further VC10, possibly XV101 around Xmas time...

May be some extensions on the K3 fleet however... ;)

Quick update, XV101 will definitely be scrapped after the next two C1K's... we are preparing her to come home from where she has been sat for a little while ;)...

According to a friend who works at Brize, XV102 departed a few minutes ago, XV107 will follow soon. Both heading for Brunti :-({{|=

Considering the large portion of the VC10's AAR operations over the years have been over Iraq, IIRC it was '102 that flew the last operational AAR sortie in May 2009.

XV107 did not leave Brize today due to some tech problem. She is now scheduled to depart Brize tomorrow at 1200.

Can't be too many C1K remaining now.

13, excluding 809 minus at least 6 which have been scrapped.

XV107 is now on her way to Brunti as "Ascot 859". This leaves only five C1K in active service: XR808, XV101, XV104, XV106, XV108.

Many many thanks to Chris K for the advance heads up, it's so difficult to get any solid info on these flights. Being fairly local I managed to get to Brunty for XV107 to see her low approach, lovely lovely sight.

Thanks again,
Chris

Sorry to see another two go off to the scrapyard - though I guess that was pretty much the fate of the other types that I had the good fortune to fly, with just the odd airframe being kept for museum display. A check in my logbook suggests no particularly memorable trips in either 102 or 107, although it does appear that both my first OCU flight and then the first leg of my first route on 10 Sqn were flown in 102.

And I see from Jelle's Homepage that there are just 10 airframes now in service ...... mind you, that was as many Belfasts as we ever had (and only half that number during my time on 53 Sqn).

102 seems to have given me quite a ride over the years looking at my log book. I had my longest leg in her, (San Fransisco in just over 11 hrs including a prod with a tri* over Goose Bay), with Paul Halstead and Mark Caslan. I got left behind in Naples after a surge on TO roll, (cracked my head open on the drains pipes while doing the post surge checks) :( , with Paul Atherton and Paul Cadders and had probably the longest engine change going, (11 days) in Pope AFB with Colin? Locke. Seem to remember it was quite a good frame apart from that
Never had a GE's wallet. It was always empty when I got back but I always had a smile on my face :-)
