Although it is sad that another '10 has retired today, I'm glad it's gone to a good home!

The question is though, why are the engines going to be removed? I know it's part of the contract, but surely there's no need for them to be removed. There must already be a mountainous pile of conways somewhere!!

Nice pics chaps, great to see the Newquay bys giving here a great reception. Such a shame to see all these "last flight" shots, but at least this one has a happy ending :D

There was an ex VC10 Conway on eBay a few months ago for a very tidy sum, so they are not exactly worth scrap value only or worthless.

There was a batch of ten Conways actually. I didn't follow the auction so I don't know if they were sold, and I cannot remember the asking price. It was a four figure sum though.
Buttons . . . check. Dials . . . check. Switches . . . check. Little
colored lights . . . check.

Believe it was about £4k per engine. Sold as seen, no anciliaries, no engine stand to transport it on. There was no guarantee they were working and they didn't sell.

Great shots Andy! Just catching up on the forums and pleased to see the images of 148 going to her new home, the water canon salute was a lovely touch and you've captured it well so don't give up with taking photo's, they're good!! =D>

I am afraid she does not quite look like that now :x

We have been working on her to make the pods/HDU safe but the engines are all removed so she is looking a bit short-ended, if you see what I mean!

The guys at the museum are all raving about her and it is an excellent addition to the collection, particularly as the Boscombe I-II is just across the way. If they park them side by side it should look okay, (you know, the 1-11 says that one day I will grow up to look like that)!!!!!

The only shot I have was too large but it wasn't brill anyway :(
Never had a GE's wallet. It was always empty when I got back but I always had a smile on my face :-)
