I wonder if Gary is in the running for other aircraft dismantling now that the VC10 is over - mentions it was an important contract. Tristar not far away from retirement.

It seems that as expected, Bob will be staying at Brunty, and one of the other three may end up at Cosford. Perhaps we should start a campaign...

Not what i am saying/speculating, just passing on what i was told, by 'insiders' at Brunty, that Bob WILL be the ground runner there.
BTW, not all the control wheel logo caps have gone. The CAF at Newquay must have been lucky, as both are still fitted to 148 there (or were when it arrived)!

"As all eyes peered skyward for the first glimpse of the aircraft, ZA147, which was delayed by poor visibility en route from RAF Brize Norton, the RAF crew made two low-level passes with wheels down before gracefully touching down and bringing the grey-painted aircraft to a halt for the final time. It will be dismantled by GJD Services, one of the specialist companies based at Bruntingthorpe. But the ultimate future of the last-flight VC10 is uncertain at the moment. Many are hoping it – or possibly another example – will eventually be transported in sections, by road, to the RAF Museum at Cosford, near Wolverhampton, to be reassembled and go on permanent display."
So ZA147 will be dismantled.

Why? They needed the space to erect buildings to house historic Royal Air Force aircraft, including a unique Vickers aircraft, the Valiant. The fact they'd effectively been lumbered with a BA collection, which included airframes with no RAF relevance at all (and which had been left to deteriorate into an unmoveable state), was hardly their fault. I suspect by that stage (2005/6) they would already have been deciding the eventual fates of the RAF airframes, and the eventual arrival of another VC10 anyway.vololiberista wrote:

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Cosford. I'd be delighted to see a '10 there again as it's my local museum. I don't much care for some of their displays (ex BOAC Britannia in RAF colours, and an ex RAF Comet in BOAC colours, for instance) but I've missed seeing the "Queen" there.
Although Bob has been earmarked as the runner, I expect it will be a quid pro quo situation, especially if it is more feasible to move the smaller Standard VC10 by road than one of the Supers. I doubt the powers that be at Brunty will object to a Super VC10 taking up a few more feet
