Upcoming maintenance tasks for ZD241.

Post by Magnum »

We are next looking at carrying out some work on ZD241 over a weekend in the near future (no date has yet been confirmed as we are trying to gauge interest) to finish off the maintenance tasks that are required. If anyone is available to help please can you let us know your details and if possible dates you are available and we will let you know what is happening as soon as possible.

A quick list of things to be done:
1) Rectify no.3 EGT indication issue.
2) Align and secure all 4 ECU intake rings.
3) L/H MLG Oleo nitrogen top up.
4) Transfer AAR camera from 147 to 241.
5) Transfer flight deck seat harnesses (or whole seats) from 147 to 241.
6) Top up both Hyd systems.
7) Clean lower surfaces of oil stains etc.
8) Tidy interior cabin trim.

I'm pretty sure I can sort all of that out. Do you have a Haynes manual for it? :-)////)

It would be a very big Haynes manual.

At least then we would all be able to help if there was a Haynes manual! :)

Knowing Haynes Manuals, a VC10 Manual would probably be full of pearls of wisdom such as. 'Due to the complex nature of this task and the large number of special tools required, this task is deemed to be beyond the scope of the average VC10 owner. It may be wise to return the aircraft to the nearest Vickers Main Agent who would be overjoyed to refuse to help you'

Off topic but I was once told by a car main agent, that my cars automatic transmission fluid was 'sealed for life' and never required changing. Fast forward 8,000 miles later, and suddenly my autobox went pop! The reason? 'Well you failed to have the transmission fluid and filter changed, didn't you Sir?

And in time honoured Haynes tradition " assembly is the reverse of disassembly".

Fortunately the complex stuff has already been done.

We need people now for the stuff mentioned to help out while the technical guys get on with it. It will be a weekend instead of midweek this time to make it easier for people to help.

I am after names and which weekends people are free that can come and help.

I'm of no use I'm afraid, I'll just give you the fundraising money, if you still want it?!!

When were you thinking of? If you just need manual labour count me in.

Mike,

I am not sure yet, I was trying to see how many people would be interested and are free at weekends. As soon as I know I will let you know too.

I can give a hand given a bit of notice. I normally spend my weekends back in Wales but I could get a weekend. Intake rings were subject of the day during the last Minors as they all had to be re-jigged. Make sure you have a good hammer and someone who can curl up in the intake!
Never had a GE's wallet. It was always empty when I got back but I always had a smile on my face :-)

Two very successful days with 241... now ready for the open day. Full power runs done, and taken for a medium speed run along the runway (60 its). Great work by all involved... many thanks
