Hi Jelle,
Yes....thank you all went very well indeed. She is now in position and looks the business. Positioned looking down the old runway toward the active airfield just where we wanted her. Its a good view from the flightdeck now. A massive thank you to all that helped and a special thank you to my colleagues from Newquay Airport because without them this move simply could not have happened.
We managed to move the BAC 1-11 as well. She is in a temporary position next to 148 for now ....... photo's to follow

PS ...Jelle, any chance you could rename this thread to perhaps ZA148 Update ? ....to come in line with the ZA150 thread ?? I am sure Thumper wouldn't mind...just a thought.

A few photo's as promised....
Having been skillfully pushed out onto the stand, ZA148 awaits the go ahead for the tow....
...leaving Echo stand for the last time....
..well on her way now with the 'brake vehicle' tucked in behind....
Half way and now for the tricky bit, to turn her around so that we can 'push' her back up the old runway to the new position....
...slowy pushing back along side (ironically two A330's here for 'parting out' ) ... they are so much bigger than the '10...
Finally, we had enough time to move our BAC 1-11 too, with the APU running for brake pressure she was a bit easier and quicker to move....
..some of the crew who helped on this important evening and without whom it would not have happened...

Here are two more from an elevated viewpoint giving some idea of how the position looks now. You can see a grass strip has been cut leading torward HAS 3 where the main collection will be centred. Sadly, we could not get 148 any closer....but as you can see, the position has it 'up side'. Visitors therefore will have short walk out to see 148. The grass strip to which I refer is the farthest from the camera.
Just to reiterate that the BAC1-11 is only parked as it is in the photo's for the short term, it will ultimately be moved along side HAS 3 in due course, freeing up the view from the VC10 flightdeck.
Varsity to move next then Canberra, two hunters, a Harrier, a Sea Devon and a Lightning plus a host of other stuff......

Hello everyone.....
It has been a while since I posted any update here, so here is the state of play thus far.
Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre is up and running and 148 is our largest exhibit. Some of you will no doubt have seen on various forums and Facebook groups....talk of the future for 148.....the future looks very positive indeed.
The three absent engines are to be refitted along with the No 1 engine that we already have here on site. This means 148 will be complete once more. How things have changed.....as just a year ago we were looking at a potential scrapping scenario !
Once the engines are fitted we will look at powering them up and all the systems too.....but lets not run before we can walk. Nothing is gauranteed but the intention is to get her fully live once again. This cannot happen however without the continued support and generosity of a very special group of individuals who give their time and expertise for nothing. In preparation for the refit currently pencilled in for June, we have recharged the hydraulics and put power onboard. The power bit didn't quite go as plannned but we are working on it. Power from a GPU that is.....the APU needs to looked at now but we are quietly confident from initial checks that it should be ok......all fingers are crossed.
ZA148 remains fully accessible to visitors for five days of every week during the winter, more in the summer but actual times yet to be decided. I believe her to be the most accessible VC10 in preservation to date, with full access to the flighdeck and cabin given under CAHC volunteer guidance. The only days we need to close her is on very windy days, and we have had a few ! .....as we are unable to get the steps on and board visitors safely in such conditions.

Thanks for the update! It is very good to hear that ZA148 will be reunited with some Conways! I'll have to plan a trip to Cornwall sometime next summer I think!
