VC10 in the BBC news (just!)

Post by FirstAde »

Hi everyone.
First post from me.

Are any members able to give detail, or otherwise verify, the portion of a Wikipedia entry about the VC10 that claims it held the subsonic transatlantic record until last weekend ?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vickers_VC10

Details about the latest fast subsonic flight on BBC, a BA 747 with help from storm Ciara.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-51433720

Thanks in advance if you can shed any light on this for me.

Welcome!

The Wikipedia page refers to this account: http://www.vc10.net/Memories/testing_ea ... lanticDash

The problem is that these 'records' were not recorded in any official way. The governing body, the FAI, does not have any details for these flights. The other problem is that the VC10 flight was to Prestwick, while other flights were New York to Heathrow, which is significantly longer.

There was also this flight a year ago: https://time.com/5109348/norwegian-airl ... ic-record/ It was a longer time, but compared to the distance New York - Prestwick, this 787 flight was slightly quicker.
