How do, Starting in 1964 I spent 2 years as an electrical apprentice at BAC Weybridge, building VC10s. Didn't do well enough in exams, but went on to operate and then program computers for a few more years. Fond memories. John.
This site has been very informative and a great source of photos for the Super VC10 model i'm presently building. The story of the wing evolution was for more interesting than i imagined.
In 1971 I flew on G-ARVH from Colombo to London - I still have my BOAC log book with the flight entry signed by the captain. It was my very first trip on an airplane and I still remember vividly looking down at the world below during the flight. It began a lifelong love of aviation. I would very much love to find a 1:200 replica of G-ARVH!
My father was an instructor on vc10s at Cranebank. We had lots of holiday flights on them.Visits to the flight deck for signing of the junior jet club book included. My dad loved that aircraft. How sad to see Cranebank now.
Let Mr. Hall know that I flew on ASGH on Jan. 25, 1968. I still have my BOAC Junior Jet Club Log Book signed by a Captain Smith. It was the only time on a VC10, but it was a great flight except for having to circle around Heathrow for a while.
I came here to read about the similarities and differences of the vc10 and il-62. I came across high level of information and a proficient style in writing. Great job and thank you!
My parents lived and worked in Japan. For school holidays I flew VC10s from Heathrow to Haneda. One trip encompassed the following route. Heathrow, Rome, Entebbe, Nairobi, Victoria in the Seychelles, Rangoon, Hong Kong and finally Tokyo. For a schoolboy this was very exciting. Fond memories of the VC 10s.
