Worked on the VC 10 simulators at RAF Brize Norton from 1982 to 1990. The original VC10 simulator was replaced by two Redifon digital simulators, a Cmk1 and a K3 variant, in 1986. After a 13 week training course at Crawley in sussex and a 5 week visual traing course in Arlington, Texas I was one of the original technicians to work on the new simulators. With the state of the art visual system and 6 degree of motion motion system the 2 new digital simulators were a quantum leap from the old Analogue simulator. My time working on these simulators was a joy and many a night shift was spent 'playing' with these great toy's. |

One of my neighbours asked me a question (he happilly does not own a pc!)about Irelands stance in WWII and if there were any military medals awarded? I was aware of Donald Garland VC but saw this entry, so can pass the info on to said neighbour. I have been involved in some research regarding a lost bomber over Holland and its amazing what path one then goes down? It was through this research that I have met a relative of Donald Garland. |

Hello, came here by way of pprune.org as I was surfing the internet at 1:30am Texas time. I was thinking of the terrible phone call we recieved as we were packing to go back to boarding school in Abbots Bromley,Staffs, telling us that 3 of our classmates had died in the 1972 Addis plane crash. I think the youngest girl was only 6 and just starting her first term. I think their father was attached to the British Embassy. The parents made the decision to bury them in the village church at Abbots Bromley. I remember the smallest coffin, so tragic. I think they had one other child. We heard terrible details about barbed-wire fences and fire, I was 14 at the time. I have never forgotten. Thank you for your site. |

I flew from Sydney to London via Fiji, Honolulu, Los Angeles, New York in 1972 - aged 12 on a Super VC10. Journey started from Blenheim, New Zealand; ferry to Wellington, then Lockheed Electra to Sydney (via Auckland I think). Amazed by the beauty of our aircraft when we boarded it at Sydney airport. Saw plenty of aircraft en-route to London Heathrow when living in South London - our first home in England. The VC10 was the most aesthetic craft in the skies at the time, and nothing has bettered it since - apart from the wonderful Concorde. Cheers |

Re: Eddie Spillanes sighting in 2004/05, it could well have been the R-1 Sentinel radar aircraft that you saw. They are VERY similar from a distance and are painted the same overall grey. |

Served on this magnificent aircraft on and off for 20 years. Will finish 32years in the RAF on this aircraft as a Ground engineer. She will be sadly missed as she has taken me all over the world and given me the happiest times in my career. God bless 'Vicky' |
