A sight to behold!

Post by Markhill28 »

Working away in the yard yesterday, when a powerful noise made me look up, a 3 ship VC10 formation flying low just to the south of King's Lynn, Norfolk having presumably just taken off from Marham after returning troops and Tornados. I dropped what I was doing and quickly grabbed the binoculars to marvel at such beautiful pieces of engineering. Top marks to all the guys who keep these fine machines up where they belong, makes one proud to see the country still being represented throughout the world by products that were actually manufactured here by real craftsmen, when costs were a secondary consideration to safety and quality.

You presume correctly.

Sadly just west of Marham a cloud layer was sat at about 5000ft all the way across to Bristol, so sadly, although many may have heard the sound of twelve Conways passing above, few would have seen it west of you until the Bristol area.

Still haven't wiped the stupid grin off my face from the 3 ship departure! Just over 20t in each jet! Awesome!

Excellent stuff, they must have took off quicker than s**t off a stick!! Are you one of the privileged few who actually fly them?

I think there was a VC10 flying very high above Norfolk the day before they came home but not having any binoculars handy all I could only tell that it was a rear engined jet. It seemed to do a few circles then disappeared eastwards.

Remarkable thing about a VC10. They do tend to fly around in circles a lot, (in my time that circle could be around the world - do they do that anymore), but they ALWAYS come home :-)
Never had a GE's wallet. It was always empty when I got back but I always had a smile on my face :-)

They did, and yes, I'm proud to be the forum's junior VC10 operator (AFAIK!). :D Had the pleasure of being the number 2 on the day. :)
