VC10 at Pisa
Hi all
Had my first and totally unexpected encounter with a VC10 in action earlier today while disembarking and walking to the terminal at Pisa in Tuscany.
The noise!! Very funny, an entire Easyjet 737-full of people stopped dead in their tracks basically in utter shock at the noise this thing was making, total bewilderment on faces, children screaming, quite surreal really... Now I understand what all the fuss is about! I always thought the VC10 was a particularly graceful looking aircraft, but I never realised there was anything still in the skies that could make a noise like that.
Another thought: what was it doing in Pisa of all places? Any ideas?

Re: VC10 at Pisa
Well a good friend of mine was on it... not 100% sure why they stopped but I got a text from them and I am guessing a refuel stop.

Glad our noise footprint was appreciated by at least one person.
As for the stopover, it was just a quick splash and dash before heading back to the UK.

If it was a refuelling stop perhaps the VC10 could also stop over at LIMZ (Cuneo Levaldigi) There is NO noise abatement procedure there!!
PS let me know first as I live just 15 minutes away!

Lol. In this case Pisa just happened to be in the right place on the western Italian coast when we were needing gas.vololiberista wrote:If it was a refuelling stop perhaps the VC10 could also stop over at LIMZ (Cuneo Levaldigi) There is NO noise abatement procedure there!!

What's wrong with you people? A VC10 at full chat is a glorious sound!
A VC10 that suddenly goes quiet.......Now that's what I call frightening....

That's precisely why LIMZ is better than LIRP. It has a 7,000ft rwy so full throttle on the brakes and no noise abatement.forester wrote:What's wrong with you people? A VC10 at full chat is a glorious sound!

Re: VC10 at Pisa
You would have half of the AT fleet clambering to get on that one. Just think, Start the tour with a few brandy sours in AKR then on to TCs in BAH. A long jump to Red Lips, (sorry), Bottoms Up in HKG followed by a quick flight to SIN for a few sherbets in Newton Circus and a sling at Raffles. If you are still alive, up to Moosehead in HIK and then on to LAS for millions of social clubs, (including Crazy Horse 2).
Only a few minutes ride over to ALQ and Midnight Rodeo and then onto New Orleans for the old quarters. Finishing the tour at IAD for a couple in 19 & M, Joanna's (please be sure you are over 21), Sign of the Whale and say goodbye to the barmen in the Crown Plaza.
You can blame Bill W for me knowing all these watering holes, (and plenty more), because I always seemed to end up with him during my GE informative year. I am really teatotal.

Never had a GE's wallet. It was always empty when I got back but I always had a smile on my face

Re: VC10 at Pisa
I thought to change the above statement to "multiple farewell tours" aka Showbiz. This would surely demonstrate the RAF's and VC10's great airborne refuelling ability!!!!vololiberista wrote:Perhaps a round the world farewell tour would be a good idea!!!!!!![]()
