Does anybody have flight manual or ODM numbers for the following:
C.1 K.2 K.3
Empty Weight
MTOW
Maximum cargo wt
I find different numbers in different places, and none of the seem to apply to these marks

The 'technical section' of the main site here lists all the weights for the Standard, C1K and Super VC10:

Hi WP...
Max weights are fairly easy:
Max Ramp Max Take-Off Max Fuel
C1K 147.4t 146.5t 70t
K3/4 152.8t 151.9t 84ish (but usually 80t)/70t
K2 143.3t 142.4t 72t
It all gets a bit more complicated after that...
The Max Zero Fuel Weights for the types are as follows:
C1K - 93t, K2 - 76t, K3 - 80t, K4 - 82t
The ZFW is made up of the Basic aircraft, crew and load.
On top of that you could add fuel up to the Max Ramp Wt so, if you had a very heavy C1K of 93t ZFW you could only put in 54.4t of fuel (even though there is room for 70t in the tanks). So if you wanted to fill up a C1K you could only go up to a ZFW of 77.4t, 15.6t less than the max ZFW... its all a compromise!
The empty weights are variable depending on the fit, but to give you an idea a C1K could carry 137 troops plus bags.
A basic weight would be around the low-mid 70s but it is a moveable feast... so you could put 15-22t of freight/people on a C1K dependant on its role fit (number of seats etc). The Ks were/are more limited and have much lower Zero Fuel Weights as they are really just tankers.
So, I can't give exact answers apart from Ramp/Take-off weights as the others are always variable...
Hope that helps,
Tonks

Thanks for that...
Anybody have the empty weights, commmmoooonnnnn, somebody must have them!
I could probably dig thru my old JATWA, but I'd prefer numbers out of the flight manual/ODM.

Also, were the weights the same for the C.1 and C.1K?
Thanks!

C1K is heavier than a C1 due to the pods and pylons

As I said above they empty weights are all different as it depends on the fit of the ac... they are not published in the ODM or the Aircrew Manuals because each airframe is different and you would have to go into the individual ac F700 (for RAF ac anyway). Around the low 70s would be a start, but ZFW is the most important figure...
The weights quoted changed slightly when they converted the C1Ks to Metric due to rounding... I have just had a look in a 1968 C1 Manual and the weights are:
Max Taxy - 325000 lb
Max T/O - 323000 lb
Max ZFW - 205000 lb
In this manual they put some average weights as well:
Role Average APS Wt Disposable Payload
Freight 154500 lb 50500 lb
PCF (76 157500 lb 47500 lb
seats)
Full Pax 160000 lb 45000 lb
(135 seat)
Aeromed 159500 lb 45000 lb
102 seat
9 stretchers
Notes for the above - Average figures only. Based on average ac basic wts. Fuel requirements may limit load. Space available may prove to be the limiting factor (certainly had that for real with 137 on board and all their bags!!!)

Tonks,
Thanks for the reply and for digging out the C.1 numbers, greatly appreciated.
You're dealing with a stupid fighter pilot here (redundant, eh?), what does "APS" stand for? I fly big airplanes now, but have never encountered this...well, we Yanks do have an Aerial Port Squadron (equivalent to your Air Movements Sq, I think)
Still would like an representative empty weight, should anyone have the necessary paperwork tucked away.

It stands for Aircraft Prepared for Service... if you have a look
here at the 7th slide down you will see a definition...
Not gonna be near the VC10 paperwork for a couple of weeks, but if I remember when back on the Sqn I will have a look for a representative weight.

Tonks,
Ha! Before looking at your slides, I said, "Humm, sounds a lot like OEW..."
Thanks for the info, If you do remember to get a representative EW, I'd REALLY appreciate it!
