As it looks like this is the last year of flight for the vc10 does anyone know if the old girl will appear at any air shows this year?..flying if possible?..maybe the raf could organise some enthusiasts flights like BA did 30 odd years back, they,d raise alot of money for there charity at say a hundred pounds a seat, fly past Brooklands ect..would be a fitting end,,she served this country so well ,it would be a great shame if her passng went unrecognised after nearly 50 years in service,a great shame.

Much as it would be nice, apart from maybe the regular static appearance at Fairford & Waddington, I can't see the '10 getting out much - they're still doing the same job around the world at the moment but with even fewer jets.

As for passenger flights, again a nice idea, but sadly after the decision to stop flying pax (particularly civilian pax) except in-extremis in Jan 2010, I doubt this could happen. The only civvies I suspect will continue to fly in it will be journalists there at RAF PR's request (as seen last year with Libya operations on the news) - and that is very rare.

I'd be amazed if 2012 is the last year of VC10 operations :)

I agree with Petet15. The last kites will probably keep flying until early 2013 at least.

I suspect more accurately it'll be the last full year!

Seeing as it's the 50th Anniversary! The air show circuit should be full on. And how about half a dozen or so round the World farewell tours!!!

I would love to see some farewell tours and plenty of airshows featuring the VC10, but sadly I cannot see it!

Justplanes.com tried to get permission to make a film of the VC10 but were declined due to being civilian! It would be a great lasting tribute if an exisiting crew could get together and make a 2-3hr film in the same manner as Justplanes.

It'll have to be someone with very very large cojones to sign the VC10 off for flying in 2013... here's hoping...

I know it seems a shame to see the end of service for old faithful but having been responsible for some of the fluid systems design .and therefore knowing that a number of the original manufacturers of equipement nolonger exist.spares must be very expensive to obtain.(for example the airconditioning spiral blowers were being reconditioned by BA after godrey went out of business.)( if available at all.). :-({{|=

We will be seeing the last one out of here on Thursday. I think a fair few cameras will be in evidence. I will try to get some put here if possible.
