Very well written and informative piece!

Interestingly, I have recently worked on a Boeing 737 & Fokker 70, both of which are around 20 years old, and both have carried out more than 10,000 more flight cycles than each of the VC10's retired to Bruntingthorpe, despite having the same amount of hours on them.

Good article, I would have to say that retirement of the last aircraft by March 2013 strikes me as very optimistic :)
