Last Rolls Royce Conway

Post by DJ-Tester »

Hello All,

We shed a tear last week as the last Conway engine has been tested. Still on finals but will be gone soon. Our factory in Croydon, that has been looking after the all of the engines for over 20 years, closed down last week too. :(

We have now provided a stockpile of servicable Engines,(ECUs) to see the VC10 out of service, they might not use them all.

Pictures to follow. I even have some video of the last test if anyone wouold like to see it, (that's if I can figure out how to get it off my camera!).

Hi DJ-Tester

I would love to see pictures and the video please.

Your post really does bring it home that the end is so close now.

Best regards.

Oh I'd really like to see the video of a Conway on test! Will be turning the speakers up full for that!

I will do my best to get them on soon, (pics and video).
The last one was on hold as we needed a thermocouple. That arrived today from B N so I fitted it this morning. It will be preserved in its bag by Monday night and collected sometime soon.
We are considering where to put all the tooling now, out of the way. We may need it still, who knows?

To get the full experience, vibrate your house until bits start to fall off, then prepare for the neighbours to call complaining that their garden smells of "petrol" and their washing has some black stuff on it!

You'll also need to arrange for drips of various fluids from the ceiling.

Never had one fail on me during testing on the aircraft. A few tweeks on the FCU and the odd P3 NRV clean but your guys did a splendid job. Many thanks from a recently retired sootie, (or when I joined up, Sumpie)!
Never had a GE's wallet. It was always empty when I got back but I always had a smile on my face :-)

Of the videos currently viewable publicly this one is the best! To think that the VC10 was marketed as being quiet!!
It's noisier than Concorde :D
