Re: Tristar Fleet
Info. that we were told 2 weeks ago is that some of the Tristars were being bought by an air leasing co.in the States. A phone call to their offices in Rhode Island confirmed that they were buying some. Great news if true as the aim would be to keep them flying, naturally.

That's a cracking image of a couple of dirty old birds, Kev. Not what you'd expect from Bangkok.

That would cost a few bucks if they want to keep them flying.jetsetpete wrote:Info. that we were told 2 weeks ago is that some of the Tristars were being bought by an air leasing co.in the States. Just think of all the work they will need to reverse all the military modifications so they can get them registered a civil aircraft again.

Maybe they will be kept as tankers, not sure who would need extra tanking though. Is there any basis in the rumour Omega Tanker wanted some of them?Magnum wrote:That would cost a few bucks if they want to keep them flying.jetsetpete wrote:Info. that we were told 2 weeks ago is that some of the Tristars were being bought by an air leasing co.in the States. Re: Tristar Fleet
Yeh, hoping these rumours are true about Omega picking some up, to be kept as 'contract' tankers. Unfortunately the days are almost certainly over for any 'civil' use in the States now, even cargo. Omega have a DC-10 and two 707's in service, so who knows, they might be about to 'modernise'!! Again, we'll see.
There's actually three Tristars wfu at Don Muang, Mike. Another Thai Sky is out of shot. Those two have certainly had their day. Maybe not so for the Las Vegas Sands 'casino jet' though, which as you may know, was caught up in the serious floods at the airport at the end of 2011, and thought to be a write off. Rumours again though, that work has been done on it over the last year or so, and even that it had a test flight recently... TBC!

Whatever her fate, I have it on good authority that 952 is still intact; at least as of yesterday.

This was just posted on GJD's Facebook page:
"GJD Services have just purchased Lockheed L1011 Tristar C2 ZE705 from the MOD, and we will be taking delivery at Bruntingthorpe in the next few days."

Re: Tristar Fleet
I wonder if Gary is keeping it to add to his collection?
I will see if it there when I next go up to see 241.

So it's swung back to Brunty after all at least or one aurframe, just goes to show that nothing is final until they actually make their last flight!!
I can't see Gary keeping it intact, I can't imagine it was cheap so more likely bought for breaking up.

ZE705 is the airframe at the Brize Enthusiasts day back in September so quite a few of us been on board it. I guess the ex PamAm fleet are going first leaving the tankers for now at least.

Re: Tristar Fleet
I was asked yesterday if I had any information to confirm that a total of 6 had been purchased as a job lot by one interested party.
The question hinted that they weren't going to be scrapped either.
