I fell in Love while rolling back and forth on the cargo floor of an RAF VC10 while doing touch and go's at RAF Uxbridge in the mid 80's while I was camped there as an Air Cadet.
Very interesting site, as I was in Technical Publication at Weybridge from 1955-60 and did the first perspective illustrations of the VC10 Vanjet (3 engines) before the 4-engined VC10. Should you require further info on the project, send me an e-mail.
i was a VA ENGINEER APPRENTICE @ Brook. and Hurn 1955-60 and worked on the build of the Valiant,Viscount and Vanguard @ Wey.AT hurn worked in the D.O on the VC.10 Great days!
I adored the VC10. BOAC used them on their flights to Australia via Zurich. At that time I was a boy and airliner fanatic. Actually I still am. I mean the latter. I will come back and check your site.
As a keen spotter in the early seventies it was always a thrill to see a vc-10 either at Manchester or Heathrow.Have flown in some classic British birds including Monarch Brits over the years but my overiding memory is being in the cockpit of XV102 coming into land at Brize around 1980!We had a real treat doing circuits and bumps for about an hour until a rather large bird of the feathered variety slammed into the glass!Very glad i joined the air cadets!!!!!Great site.
If you want to hear the sound of a 10 taking off from the RAF,s Island in the sun ,have a gander at this I posted recently. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HYE63hXk9I

Happy Memories - I was a BOAC flight engineer on these beautiful aircraft from 1964 until 1975. I was seconded to Gulf Air in'74 when they bought thier Standard VC10s for 3 months. I did over 11,000 hours on standards & supers. Well Done.
