I was a Loadmaster on 10 Sqn from 1967-73.

There is a 10 Sqn Association for all ex/serving personnel of the RAF [usually held at BZN].

My years with 10 Sqn were some of the happiest times of my life-we were a team-from the pointed end of the a/c to the back end of the a/c and the Ground Servicing Teams/Movements/Load Control were all very helpful during my time and it might be a bit late BUT 'Thank you'.

I was stationed at BZN when the whole Crew were named Walker [reading one of your previous entries].

I haven't heard, as yet, anything as enthralling as the sound of the VC10 taking off at Changi when you were sitting in the Crew Bar with a Tiger Tops in your hand. A Great a/c not only to work on but the shape and beauty of her.

Regards to all especially 10 Sqn.

You have a trully great website here which is doing justice to a great airliner. Unfortunatley many forget about this aircraft and only think of Boeing and Douglas. It's a pity they couldn't replace the four Conways with a couple of RB211's.

I look forward to any new additions to the site.

I first flew on a VC10 in April 1968 at the age of 11. Our flight was from RAF Brize Norton and destination was RAF Changi in Singapore via Bahrein and Gan.
The aircraft was XR809 and it was from this site that I learned of it`s being used as the RB211 test bed. I knew about it`s final resting place but now I realise why. It was a sad end for such a fine piece of British craftmanship.
In 1982 I did a similar trip in a Russian IL62 (Classic) via Moscow and New Delhi to the newly opened Changi Airport. I wish that had been a VC10 as well not just a mediocre copy.
A very good website for a really super aircraft--glad I found you, thanks.

An excellent site, well done! Loved the VC10 since I done my work experience at RAF St Athan in 2001. spent a week working with the DARA team on this amazing craft, will never forget standing underneath its body while doing engine runs, superb. will also never forget searching for parts in the avionics bay of a scrapped vc10 with nothing but a weedy torch!! keep up the good work ;)

February 28th 1970 saw the Vc10 production come to an end. Today is the 35th anniversary.
