i see on the net http://www.divernet.com/cgi-bin/article ... =1057&ac=d
what looks like xr806, defueling incident prototype cmk1..is to be sunk at stoney cove inland dive site in leicstershire betwean 26 and 28 S eptember..a little sad that another historic vc10 going..at least the cockpit and part of the passenger cabin wont be scrapped i guess.Would be great if anyone could get some pics of her being lowered into the water by chinook...did anyone manage to get any pic,s of GASG-P on it,s last flight to Boscom..Would be nice to think one of the RAF,s tens in the best nick, lowest hours ect could be preserved under cover for possible future flight like the vulcan...anyway here,s the article from divenet....Plans are well advanced to sink an old VC-10 aircraft cockpit and fuselage section at Stoney Cove inland dive site in Leicestershire.
A key player in bringing the plan to fruition has been RAF Brize Norton Sub-Aqua Club. With the backing of Stoney Cove, RAF sport divers have been working hard behind the scenes to secure provision of the decommissioned plane.
"We are presently preparing the hulk to make it diver-friendly, and Stoney is deciding where it wants it placed," Flight Lieutenant Pete Hawkins, Chairman of the RAF club, told Divernet. The plan is to transport the fuselage by low-loader to Stoney, where it will be lifted into the water by a Chinook helicopter.
The sinking is expected to be carried out between 26 and 28 September. The plane will join a host of wrecks at the site, including other aircraft - a Viscount airliner, Wessex helicopter and Cessna light plane. Stoney Cove - 01455 273089, www.stoneycove.com

I seem to remember that this same subject was present on a dive website around two years ago. Has the news item resurfaced or will it go through this time??
Personally I am no great fan of a plan like this, but I guess that in its current position at BZN she will eventually end up as scrap metal anyway.

This was the plan a couple of years ago but they ran into problems with it.
Being eco friendly then the rules said that all nasty stuff had to be removed, all cables, pipes drained etc and someone would have to sign to say it was so.
I was involved last year in costing its removal and final scrapping as no one wanted it. Thats about as far as it went and the final decision rested with the ARC IPT. (Still waiting)
It has been used as a dumping ground for some time now. A quick look upstairs says it all
