I'm sure the Beeb or Sky would be interested to hear when the time comes, that the last British built aircraft/the last of the two fastest jet transports is about to become a saucepan.
Edit: Money talks as they say. Our "cousins?" apparently keep 500 KC135's in the air which are 707's aren't they? So maybe there's a case for cancelling the Airbus option and restarting VC10 production. It follows the old addage "If it works don't change it!" I heard today of an old woman whose fridge that she bought in 1952 is still working!!!

Trouble with that argument is that the USAF is trying to replace a good number of them with a new tanker... they have also spent a great deal on money updating their 135s, they are a bit like Grandads Old Axe (10 new handles and 4 new heads but still the same axe!) and have new cockpits, engines etc. Sadly the economy of scale has never been on the side of the VC10!
I really believe that the British press wouldn't give a hoot about the demise of the VC10... far more interested in overpaid and over-rated football players and other unimportant celebs... it seem to be all that folks are interested in!!!! (I hate footy and celebrity if you hadn't guessed.
So, much as I love the ac and have enjoyed the thousands of hours I have spent in them (and hopefully a few hundred more to come) I do think her days are numbered...

A great percentage of what one sees in the British press is of course what "they" want us to see!!!!!!! I do have a couple of videos made by the Ex Discovery Wings channel featuring your good selves. Nothing ventured nothing gained as they say. So if somebody knows somebody who knows somebody?? You never know!! It is a pity though that the cuts will stop the marque achieving 50 yers in service. Now there's a point! Both the media and the government have a passion for anniversaries!!!!!!!!!!Tonkenna wrote: I really believe that the British press wouldn't give a hoot about the demise of the VC10... far more interested in overpaid and over-rated football players and other unimportant celebs... it seem to be all that folks are interested in!!!! As it happens the recent cuts have not changed the out-of-service date for the 10... it was 2013 as of about 18 months ago. It was always going to be a long shot that she would see 50 years in RAF service... who knows what might happen though
