The BOAC VC10 tie is possibly not an authentic item.

It doesn't appear to have the necessary soup stain .....

Hi Chaps...

Forester, lol, I know what you mean

Mike, I got it from eBay and sadly I know nothing of its history...

I vaguely remember my Grandpa having a blue version of your red tie from his VC10 days.....I could be mistaken though!

Andrew: I think you're quite correct, as I recall that tie with the contrails as also being available in blue or, possibly, green. And I thought I had one, but it turns out to have a maroon background with a gold 10 (no contrails) sitting in the middle of a gold wreath, with a bit of blue ribbon. Anyone out there who had anything to do with the squadron fund and who can put us right?

A fashion note: That sqn tie is in mid-70s kipper width, some 4 inches wide at the tip. My Argosy ones from mid/late-60s are barely 2.5 inches wide - and they all look odd today!

It is indeed, Tonks! Mine is dark / light blue - still going strong after 27 years.

BAE Filton also commissioned a version with their (then) speculative A310 MRTT instead of the VC10 back in the late 1990s - I wish I knew where I could find one.

How was Toolooze - did you have fun with the A400M guys?

Hi Nick,

The other one I saw was that colour, being worn by a certain Brize Ops Navigator who has also been going strong for many years!!

Toulouse was fun, and very interesting :D

Hope you are well,

ATB
