By the time Vickers 'became' BAC in 1964 the VC10 had already been flying for two years, and deliveries to BOAC were just starting. To 'rename' an aircraft at such a moment is next to impossible as the marketing department would have been selling the type for several years already by then. Also the designation VC10 standing for Vickers Commercial no. 10 is obviously linked to Vickers and not to BAC. For those reasons I guess that the management made a decision to leave the aircraft alone and concentrate on the newer types and market these as BAC products.

BOAC and BA always marketed the type as just the VC10, staying away from the dilemma of calling it Vickers or BAC. Several books from those days and later list the aircraft as the BAC VC10, but the majority of them seems to have settled on calling it the Vickers VC10. Personally I see that as the proper name for it! :D

As Tonkenna already pointed out the control column badges were probably already made in 1964 so there's another reason not to change the name.

It's sorted now. That's what you get when you want to keep a forum friendly and open I guess.

I'll see if the problem stays away, if it doesn't then I might close things down and restrict posting to registered members.
