Thank you FP. As we were with our friend at Brunty they suggested that we would probably get moved on if we were to stand on the grass strip between runway and taxiway so we hung back when everyone else went over there. At that point I did a few test shots and figured if I went any further forward I would not fit the whole of Bob in the shot, so I guessed the area of touchdown and was lucky! It was tricky avoiding camera shake with the strong wind so really felt for those with long heavy lenses!
Fortunately we were told we could go forward to the grass area. I thought we would only be allowed to stand by the perimeter road at best.
I think this has spurred me on though to try and get a secondhand DSLR. Everyone gets some really good shots. My old Olympus OM10 is sat gathering dust somewhere, about time I upgraded.
I've not felt the same since I borrowed someones 100-400L lens for Yeovilton this year, I now look at my 21 year old 75-300 lens like it's something I found in a scrap yard
eBay is definitely your best bet as you find people have taken up the hobby and then given it up so you can get a good deal on bundle sales on there!
