Hmmm I wonder who you are? I was at Brize 1977 - 1984 as well on LSS D shift. Did s 'tour' of the station BSS ,Role, VIP and LSS.
I was posted away due to an 'issue' with a local girl in Carterton who basically got het mum to phone the station commander and got me posted - all because I wouldnt marry her! To this day I am still angry over being sent away from Gods aircraft! I miss her badly THE AIRCRAFT that is.

It's OK Murray, I remember you, matey. My history, well I got posted to Role Equipment Flight at Brize, in what would have been early '77. Did the rounds there, seat bay, roller bay, VIP bay, before moving up the ramp to LSS. Left there for a short stint in Scotland in late '81 (just after the Ativan scandal, though I should add that I wasn't involved in that, but saw it all), and was back on LSS by mid '84. Most of my time was either on 'A' shift or 'C' shift as I remember it, though I did do a little bit on 'B' shift. Eventually got ousted from there on the formation of 3AMS, and from there press-ganged into going to 1 Sqn St Athan, where I stayed until I was given the option of the "golden ticket". Bet you're wondering who I am, too.
As regards others, last time I was at Brize there were a couple of old 10-line stalwarts still working the line for Serco.

There are still one or two 3AMS/101 guys here at SA, along with a quite a few of the civvies that were working on the old girl whilst you were here I should think.
Never had a GE's wallet. It was always empty when I got back but I always had a smile on my face

Oh, I forgot to mention. As a civilian I went back to "Twin Peaks" quite a few times working with the Fields/Hunting moneygrabbers for the BAe CWP. I guess it was a case that I didn't really like being forced to live there, but was ironically perfectly OK with it when it was my choice. I certainly learnt how to use a rivetting gun properly, that's for sure. 28swg sheets of stainless and bloody monel rivets. That stuff doesn't give you too many second chances.
