quite a sight that Laurie.
Was working over by the cutting bays when 103 went through it ! Jacked up, legs cut out, frame lowered onto its belly with air bags, then the dreaded saws turning it into toilet roll sections.
Was down there for a week from Brize doing spares recovery on 2 Ks and 103..all in the nick of time.
Wish I had my camera with me to record this. The sound of 103 as it dropped to the deck (Flaps down as well) and settling onto its belly over an hour was something I wont forget.

That is the saddest thing I have ever heard. I spent MANY years keeping 103 flying and she was a good kite. Prepped her for a Royal one time. It actually HURTS to hear every time one of my 'babies' leaves this world to fly the great skies of beyond and techys are forever treated as idols!
You bend 'em we mend 'em. Well that is until those nasty people with the saws destroy years of work
I cant believe that this aircraft [VC10] affected me so much that it was almost a love affair! RIP 103 we flew many happy hours together
Now I just fly the Abacus VC10 on me flight sim recreating the golden years in and out of Kai Tak, Changi, Singapore. Through their hard work we can at least have some memories. Their model of the VC10 flies like a dream and is quite accurate. The approach to Kai Tak is HORRIFYING. Having flown it many times for real and on flight sim I have every admiration for as to how a pilot can make a procedure turn in finals and usually with a cross wind! VC10 will never die as long as there are still us-the enthusiasts we happy few, we band of brothers!
Final note to the jockeys (PLEASE fly the remaining ones well guys no 4 G landings!) I know Tonks is a good 'un
I'll be videoing landings for prosperity (and scoring) like the Navy!
