A sad sight- I saw her last night too. The only small consolation is that GJD will be saving the cockpit sections of any scrapped VC10s.

This is a very sad sight indeed, just wish I could fit a cockpit section of my own in my back garden :)

If they're going cheap then they would make a very good sim-pit!

to think..she took the pope over africa in the late 60,s while he blessed differnt countries from the flight deck....and spent the night onboard,a shame they couldnt have saved her,a shame they could,nt save them all...so much history tied up with these beautiful old girls..

In his reply, Gary said that the cockpits are all being saved intact (not much point in stripping them out, I guess, as few if any items could be used on other aircraft). Also, the engine air intakes are going to be saved to be turned into desks or something similar (I am making room in my office :D )

Still no word though on which of the remaining airframes will be scrapped. On Saturday, I had a fairly good view from the edge of the runway (did anyone else here go to see the Lightning show?) and ZA147 was in the same spot and there were no signs anything had been removed.
