Time to recall the VC10's???

Hopefully nothing serious with the Voyager but can see the Tristar having a minor reprieve! Just hope they don't want to grab back the '10's!

Well there's what, 5 that are 'complete'? It would be lovely to have them back in the air but I think there's more chance of a Concorde getting back up.

Dropping 2,000ft can't have been pleasant especially for those injured, I won't ever complain about turbulence again!

Well, as Thumper said, Concorde will fly sooner. But it sounds serious, you don't ground those A330s over something small.

i herd a britsh aerospace bloke say the ten,s could have flown another 4 years at Brunty wen the last flight came in...maybe they should have?..

Well, well! an Almost identical sudden loss of altitude happened to me many years ago in a 10 and over Western Turkey too. I was returning from visiting my parents in Tehran.
It was put down to clear air turbulence. The aircraft out of nowhere dropped at least 1,000ft with the wings bending up to their max deflection and then letting go of the lift like flapping rulers. It was quite scary and happened twice in succession. The Captain came back and ordered an issue of brandy for all the pax. When he was told what happened to the wings he remarked that had we been in a 707 they would have most likely come off!

A sudden loss of altitude can be caused by clear air turbulence, mountain waves, jet stream side effects and some other issues. A 707 once crashed because of it. The fact that they took the precaution if grounding the Voyagers points towards a different cause though.

I think you're referring to flight 911 which was a round the world BOAC jolly that crashed onto Mount Fuji. To think that the passengers passed the wreckage of another airliner prior to take-off only to suffer the same fate half an hour later.
Had it been a VC10 wouldit have survived? One will never know. Perhaps.
