Still a black day if you ask me. And to think that the aircraft looked like this just a few days earlier. I wonder how much 'spares recovery' took place. It's not as if Boeing needed VC10 spares but if they were recovered before the sale to Boeing (as mentioned in the article above) then the aircraft cannot have been sold as flyable VC10s. Hardly a good deal for Boeing but it also implies that BOAC knew what the most likely fate of the aircraft would be.
Well found 1103, I remember reading about this while I was at college and yes I was sickened by the pictures of VC10's a mere 12 to 13 years old being scrapped.Yet today we have VC10's of AT LEAST 37 years old still flying.OK,yes tender loving care from the RAF.Sorry but, (for me) the arguments for scrapping don't hold any water, especially as the other BOAC/BA standards went to Gulf Air. I'm sure someone out there must know some of the sales staff at BA at the time of this "deal" as they might have some "inside knowledge".
P.S. Even the Boeing sales team of those days are invited to participate.
