ex VC10 fitters

Post by ralphers1 »

wondered if anyone out there worked on VC10's in the late 80's/early 90's? Myself, worked on transport versions at East Midlands Airport for Fileds when they had a contract for re-wiring work on 10's, when the contract drew to a close i went to Brize with Fields TSD as a contractor, then onto BAe Filton to work on the refuelling conversions of old BA frames. anyone on here involved or remember these projects?

EMA is my local airport (I live in Derby) & remember the white 10 sqd ones there in the 80's, yes. What years were Fields doing them at EMA? Anyone got any photos of them there?

I worked on all the 10's at Filton K2/3/4 and still remember the first Flight of ZA141 dressed in camoflage colours post converstion. It's good to see the original Super's have lasted the test of time. Shame the same can't be said for the K4's considering the significant work that was put into them.

141 was the only one that was painted in camo... sadly. I would have loved to have flown them painted like that!

rumour has it that the old fields/hunting hangar was designed in the 60's to accomodate a 10, either someone cocked up or the building sank on its foundations as everytime we wanted to get one through the doors, the oleos had to be de-flated, as soon as the fin was through the doors all was good. Rewire project was always done in the west end of the hangar where orion airways engineering used to be based though i do remember we had another 10 come in for structural work on the blowout panels in the main wheel well
